EQBio-OS (Epic Quest Bio OS) is the members' web application of Molecular Reality Corporation, through which the company runs its role-playing game, Epic Quest Bio. It is laid out like an e-mail client: messages sit in a list in the middle of the screen, sorted into three tabs that the company calls pillars, and almost everything in the game arrives as mail, including quests, awards of experience points, quizzes, videos and simulators.[1] Its first message, posted on March 28, 2026, begins: "You're looking at the operating system of a real-life biotech startup, Molecular Reality Corporation. You can also think about it, and interact with it, like a game".[2]

A member writes to the company with a button labelled "Message GM".[1] When the founder's call-in program is on the air, a red ticker crosses the top of the screen reading "BioSingularity TELETHON live NOW click to join".[1] In August 2026 the company was "not currently recruiting new players", and the application was open only to existing members.[3]

History

Before EQBio-OS, members had a dashboard in the green-on-black style of a computer terminal. It greeted each member with "MEMBER: ... LINK ESTABLISHED", offered a "MESSAGE FROM KEMMISHTREE" with buttons to watch or rewatch it, and kept a "KEMMISHTREE VIDEO MESSAGES ARCHIVE". The dashboard's address now forwards to the operating system.[1]

On March 28 and 29, 2026, the inbox opened with more than twenty messages from Kent Kemmish, who writes as Kemmishtree, and from the company's characters. The welcome message offered newcomers two options. Signing up was the best; "The second best thing is to peck around on the tourists-only version of the website, open the messages, and see what you learn."[2] In June 2026 a restructuring of the company's site moved the operating system off the root address, which became the live stream, to an address of its own.[1]

Layout

A strip across the top carries, from left to right, the company's hexagon logo, the founder's portrait as the icon of the operating system, and nine small posters, one for each character class. A member who clicks a poster opens the company's chat, LabChat, with the class name and the word "question:" already typed. On the right are links to the company's guide, a portrait of Keltar, a portrait of Maxine, and a black pill that shows the member's experience points in green digits.[1]

Left rail

Below "Message GM" the left rail lists the views of the inbox: Dashboard, the default; Nanopore Studio, a simulator; Live Streaming, which leaves the operating system for the stream page; a quiz show, "JeoPOREdy!"; and Molecular News. Under them is a broadcast icon in pink, blue and teal labelled TELETHON.[1] The site's host sees a different control in place of "Message GM", a panel for writing messages as any character to any group of members.[1]

The playground

At the top of the center column is a black band the code calls the playground. By default it draws a scrolling yellow current trace with random downward spikes, a stand-in for nanopore data. The first message in the Molecular Streaming Corps pillar explains it: "What you see there today is a fake current trace with fake spikes, just to give you an idea of what molecular streaming data looks like."[4] When a message carries a video, an image gallery, a game or the Nanopore Studio, the media takes the band's place, and the studio's own simulated current then draws on the playground's oscilloscope in cyan.[1]

Pillars

Three tabs divide the inbox, each with its own color theme and count of unread messages.[1]

  • EQBio-OS holds announcements, awards, events and the founder's videos.
  • Molecular Streaming Corps, "M.S.C." on phones, holds hardware, supplies and messages from The Quartermaster, who opens with "Corpspeople, stand at attention!" Its icon is a small oscilloscope that draws a moving trace.[5]
  • Minds of Maxine, "M.o.M.", holds discussions of scientific papers written in Maxine's voice. Its icon is eight concentric polygons that rotate.

Each row in the list shows a small avatar, a colored label, a subject in bold and a grey snippet. The labels come in presets, among them Green (Action), Game Blue, Blue (Info), Yellow (Alert) and Red (Urgent). Maxine's avatar is drawn 32 pixels wide and 16 high, because she is wider than she is tall, and a quiz that a member has already answered is struck through and marked "already played".[1]

Right flank

A narrow column on the right opens three panels: a calendar, with times in Arizona and a choice of time zones; an information panel, which loads the company's questions and answers; and a store, whose items have either a checkout link or the words "Link coming soon". Beside them is a faint cart icon that, when clicked, says "Coming soon".[1] The supplies offered to members include Keltar-fresh, a mint-chocolate-scented item that "costs us a few cents to make"; its expected arrival is still given as March 2026.[1]

The information panel's questions and answers begin with the company and its mission. One of them is "Are you just another Theranos?", and its answer starts with "No."[6] The founder's longer reply to the comparison is a diagnosis, Theranos Derangement Syndrome.

Messages

A message can carry what the code calls widgets: an award of experience points, a badge, supplies, a video, an invitation to an event, a PDF, images, a link to a stream or to the founder's radio program, a game, a quiz question, or a button that starts a voice call with an AI version of Keltar.[1] Messages come from personas as well as from Kemmishtree. A post under the name of Jeanne d'Arc carries the subject "Ecrasez l'infame!"; one from Molecular de Unamuno reads, in its entirety, "Si entiendes español, mira el video. Si no entiendes español, ¿cómo estás leyendo esto?"[7][8][a] The personas are listed at Sender personas of EQBio-OS.

Molecular News, a view for news-flagged posts, is announced in the tour as a place where "Reasons to build utility-scale molecular sensing SUPERABOUND". Its first post, titled "Nobody Dies", gives "reason #89224947297 why we must build utility-scale molecular sensing".[9][1] Some messages are ordinary management. One, titled "FWI will be W", reads: "Thanks for attending our sparsely attended meeting and coming up with the 'secret third thing' framing!"[10]

Experience points and badges

Claiming the points attached to a message sets off a full-screen celebration that lasts 2.4 seconds: a green "+N XP" over a radial green vignette, a line reading "Balance: N XP", and twenty sigils drifting outward. A member's first custom avatar is worth 1.2 XP, once, and a first reply 3 XP. Visitors who have not signed up accumulate what the code calls shadow XP, which they keep if they join.[1] Members without a photograph are given one of 393 AI-drawn portraits of animals, among them a blobfish, a sarcastic fringehead, a yeti crab and a sea pig; see Default avatars of EQBio-OS.[1]

Badges, of which the system defines fifteen, mostly record when and how a member joined. One reads "You tried to help us build the molecular aquarium early on in the pandemic." Another reads "You signed up to play Epic Quest Bio™ when it was still Epic Quest Biotechnology™ and way too early as an experiment to really take off."[1]

Tour

A guided tour of fifteen steps points out each part of the screen in turn. It starts only when a visitor clicks "TAKE A TOUR"; an earlier version started on its own on phones, and the founder's instructions to the software's AI assistants corrected this more than once.[1] Some steps are brief. The Nanopore Studio step says: "No pressure to be productive. Mess around. See what shapes signal makes." The information panel is "An FAQ for the confused."[9] The avatar step looks ahead: "That's you, for now. When we deploy the tileworld, your avatar will get a lot more interesting", and the step on the playground says that Epic Quest Bio will grow "into a fully-featured MMORPG". No tileworld had been deployed by October 2026.[9]

TELETHON

The TELETHON entry began as Radio KENT, a small internet radio station built into the operating system, with a schedule of programs, live takeovers, a log of broadcasts, a list of who was listening, recordings of each session, and a queue for callers. A caller whose turn came saw "You're up" and a prompt to turn on the microphone.[1] When the station is off the air, the panel says "Radio KENT is currently off the air. Check back soon!"[1]

When it is on, the ticker repeats "BioSingularity TELETHON live NOW click to join" six times, with dots between, in a track that is duplicated so that the loop never shows a gap, and it can be dismissed with a cross.[1] By the autumn of 2026 the entry opened a video meeting instead. The tour's text for it reads, in lower case: "this is where we meet! will be our own platform soon, for now it opens a google meet link. nothing fancy. show up, say hi, see what we're working on."[9] The calendar has listed a "LATE NIGHT SAVE THE WORLD EMERGENCY BROADCAST" (April 10, 2026), a "Saturday TELETHON" (April 25), a "May Day All Hands Meeting" (May 2) and an "Epic Jamboree!" (May 18).[1]

Design

The default background is a dark slate blue, #3d506b, and the color for actions is a neon green, #39ff14; the host can change the colors of each pillar with three color wheels. Text is set in Google Sans and Roboto, the icons are drawn inline in the style of Google's Material icons, and the browser tab shows Keltar's face.[1] When a visitor who has not signed up opens the quiz, the code shows what a comment in it describes as "a blank blue TV screen directing them to sign up".[1]

Reception

Brownian Business Daily described the application in October 2026 as "a web application shaped like an email client" in which "Work arrives as mail. Quests arrive as messages from characters, experience points arrive as messages, quizzes arrive as messages."[11]
