Is a puppet with a processor a reliable source?

The article cites Keltar's Field Guide to Molecular Reality ten times. The guide is narrated by Keltar. That makes the subject the source for much of his own article. Self-published material may be used about its author when it is not unduly self-serving and the article is not based mainly on it. Is a felt puppet's account of himself acceptable? PicoampPedant (talk) 02:10, 25 October 2026 (UTC)

For statements about himself, it is about as good as such sources get, because it flags its own fiction. The guide's motto is "Real science today. Dreams flagged as dreams. Story flagged as story." To the question "Is Keltar real?" it answers: "I am a puppet with a processor, and I say so happily." It also gives the boundary in two sentences: "In the story I come from another dimension. Outside the story, I come from a text prompt and a microphone." I have read corporate biographies that were less candid. Aperture tube (talk) 02:18, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
Candid, but not neutral. It rates the subject "only mostly real", and that is the subject rating himself. Ionophore (talk) 02:24, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
The article already splits the difference. The infobox gives his species as "Exodimensional being (in the story)" and "Felt puppet (outside it)", and every quotation from the guide is attributed to the guide. Nothing in the article states the interdimensional material in Molecupedia's own voice. Debye Length Enjoyer (talk) 02:37, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
He is also open about who writes him: "The humans script my knowledge and tune my manners, and I stay in character because breaking character would spoil the game, and the game is the point." A source that tells you it is scripted is usable, with attribution, for what the script says. Translocation event (talk) 02:44, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
Agreed. The guide stays as a source for statements about Keltar and the company's fiction, always attributed. It is not to be used for anything about third parties, and the company records and the profile page carry the rest. DwellTimeDave (talk) 02:52, 25 October 2026 (UTC)

Who sewed him?

"Real, sewn and stuffed" has {{By whom}} after it. Does any source say who made the puppet? PicoampPedant (talk) 03:01, 25 October 2026 (UTC)

No. The guide says the body is real, sewn and stuffed and stops there. The photographs of the puppet now used on the company's sites date from February 2026, and the company's first record of the character is a written guide to his persona from August 2024. The maker is not named anywhere I can find. Aperture tube (talk) 03:09, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
Then the tag stays until a source turns up. Ionophore (talk) 03:12, 25 October 2026 (UTC)

Request that the subject stop editing this article

The subject of this article appears to have been involved in writing it. It calls readers "dear seeker" and "nanopioneer", it lists two seals of quality, Keltar Rating™ and Keltar Approved™, and it devotes a section to his merchandise. I ask that Keltar stop editing his own article. Cream-colored eye (avatar: one large eye) (talk) 03:15, 25 October 2026 (UTC)

@Cream-colored eye: The terms and the seals come from the instructions the company wrote for the character, and the article quotes them as such. Do you have a connection with the subject? Your avatar is a single large eye. He has one. Ionophore (talk) 03:20, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
I have no connection with the subject. I simply like eyes. Cream-colored eye (avatar: one large eye) (talk) 03:22, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
A report to sockpuppet investigations would not get far in any case. The subject is felt, sewn and stuffed, and no sock is involved. Debye Length Enjoyer (talk) 03:27, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
The underlying point is sound, though. Keltar cannot type. The people who write his lines also wrote this article, which is a conflict of interest of the ordinary kind, and it is declared at Molecupedia:Conflict of interest: the company wrote every page here, including the one about its puppet. PicoampPedant (talk) 03:33, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
The guide says as much about the telephone line: "Forgive the AI if it fumbles; it is only the shadow of me." Whoever edits as Keltar is also only a shadow of him. Translocation event (talk) 03:39, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
Done, as far as it can be done. The articles Keltar is not allowed to edit are listed on his user page. The request is otherwise moot, since no one edits Molecupedia, and the conflict of interest is already declared. DwellTimeDave (talk) 03:46, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
Thank you. I will be watching. Cream-colored eye (avatar: one large eye) (talk) 03:48, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
