Warrior is one of the nine character classes of Epic Quest Bio, the role-playing game through which Molecular Reality Corporation organizes its work. Until the class posters of June 2026 it was the Barbarian, the red class of the company's database. The founder's essay of 2025 introduced the Barbarian with a question: "What did you think the fighter/warrior type class would do in a startup roleplaying game?"[1] The posters give the class no description under its new name. A Player Scientist may take it as a major or a minor class.

Origins

In the essay, "How to Play Epic Quest Bio", the landing text of epicquest.bio in 2025, a Barbarian must "eat crushing rejection for breakfast, while laughing about it" and is "the treasure-hunting champion who ensures the guild never has to pursue advanced biotech toolkit development while living in cardboard boxes on Skid Row."[1]

In the company's database the Barbarian is the second of the eight original classes, with the color 255, 33, 40 in RGB, a red, and the placeholder description "The Barbarian class is vital to the mission. [Edit this description in the Command Deck]". Its flat icon is a red fist gripping a rising orange arrow.[2] The new name appears earlier in company files than the posters: a design draft for an introductory quiz campaign, kept by March 2026, addresses one of its quests to "Warrior-Class Players (BizDev/Recruitment focus)".[2]

Poster

The poster imitates the worn cover of a comic or a paperback, with red letters outlined in yellow across the top. At its center a hooded, red-haired woman in leather armor crouches with a short blade, holding a green, spiked sphere like a virus particle above a blue one, and red monsters close in from both sides.[2] At 15.0 megabytes it is the heaviest file of the nine posters; the header of the member software shows it as a square no more than 40 pixels wide. A member who clicks it opens the company's chat, LabChat, with "Warrior question:" already typed.

The enemy on the poster is microbial, and so was one of the company's planned games. SARS Odyssey, a virology title in Early Releases on Maxine's Quest (about 2022), was to use "polystyrene beads with different surface functionalities, lipid particles", with "no real viruses involved in the early phase".[3]

Military vocabulary

The company names its volunteers in the language of an army. Its community is the Molecular Streaming Corps; the founder's first message to it, "Marching orders", begins "Molecular Streaming Corps, assemble!"[4] Its hardware persona, The Quartermaster, opens with "Corpspeople, stand at attention!"[5] The instructions for its mascot, Keltar, call the Corps "an army of light against molecular darkness".[2] In The Disclosure Crawl, the company's quiz dungeon, the battle cry is "ERADICATE ALL DISEASES!",[6] and a correct answer to the final boss is a "DEVASTATING KNOWLEDGE STRIKE!"[7]

In tabletop games

The essay names Dungeons & Dragons as the model for the classes. The game's rules of 1974 called the class the fighting-man.[8] The supplement Unearthed Arcana added a barbarian in 1985,[9] and the second edition of 1989 grouped its fighting classes as "warriors".[10] The company's class has held both of those later names, in the order the game introduced them.
