There are two MR1s
I came here from MR1 Nanopore Reader expecting a redirect and found a disambiguation page. The company has two instruments called MR1, and both are built around an ESP32-S3 and an LMP7721. Which came first? Translocation event (talk) 05:52, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
:The handheld. The MR1 Molecular Streaming Device appears on the founder's CV as the "MR Molecular Streaming Device (formerly demonpore 64)", and early in 2025 a chatbot speaking as Keltar was answering visitors' questions about it. The desktop design began as the Sentinel Nanopore Reader: the repository's first commit is dated November 11, 2025, and "Sentinel Nanopore Reader Rev 11" was added on December 23. It became the MR1 Nanopore Reader on October 18, 2026, in a commit titled "refactor: Rename Daemon Pore/Sentinel to MR1 across codebase". Ionophore (talk) 05:58, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
::Three, strictly. Before the rename, "MR1" was already the name of the reader board inside the Sentinel stack and of its firmware folder. The MR1 Nanopore Reader has an MR1 in it. Aperture tube (talk) 06:03, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
:::The README now opens with "MR1 Nanopore Reader (MR1)". Before the rename the parenthesis held "Daemon Pore". PicoampPedant (talk) 06:07, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
::::And the old names have not quite left. As of October 20 a design document still gave its "System Target" as "MR1 Nanopore Reader (Daemon Pore)", and the firmware still marks the start of every data frame with the four-byte word "SENT". Weep moat (talk) 06:11, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
:::::Do they share anything besides the name and two chips? Translocation event (talk) 06:14, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
::::::A third chip, the MCP4822 that sets the voltage across the pore. After that the parts lists part company. The handheld ran on batteries and was built to play Maxine's Quest; the reader has two peristaltic pumps, a four-electrode cell and a leak detector its README calls a "Conductive Weep Moat", and no games. Weep moat (talk) 06:18, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
:::::::Is that your username's origin? Ionophore (talk) 06:19, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
::::::::Yes. Weep moat (talk) 06:20, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
:::::::::The page as it stands does the job: two entries under the company, one line each on what they share. The board inside the reader is described at MR1 Nanopore Reader and does not need an entry of its own.
MR1 Nanopore Reader → MR1. The reader is the company's current instrument and the one most readers arriving here will want. The handheld is a prototype. Luer lock (talk) 06:28, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
*Oppose. The reader has been called MR1 for one week, and it has not been built. Its status line is "Designed. Simulated. Built and measured: not yet." PicoampPedant (talk) 06:33, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
*Oppose. MR1 is also a human gene, whose protein presents vitamin B metabolites made by bacteria to mucosal-associated invariant T cells. Its name is older than the company. Ionophore (talk) 06:38, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
*Oppose. Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 grows by passing electrons to manganese oxide. Of everything on this page it is the only MR1 that produces an electric current. The two instruments only measure one. Debye Length Enjoyer (talk) 06:44, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
*Comment. Mercury-Redstone 1, on November 21, 1960, rose about 10 centimeters before its engine shut down and settled back onto the pad. It is the only MR-1 on this page that has been launched. Aperture tube (talk) 06:50, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
*Oppose, and I withdraw the nomination. Luer lock (talk) 06:55, 25 October 2026 (UTC)

Please change "in the public domain under CC0" to "under the AGPL" in the entry for the reader. The repository was released under the GNU Affero General Public License. Guard ring (talk) 07:08, 25 October 2026 (UTC)
:Not done. It was released under the AGPL, version 3 or later, on October 16, 2026. On October 21 a commit titled "Relicense project to Public Domain under CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0-1.0)" placed the whole project in the public domain, and GitHub now lists its license as CC0-1.0. The AGPL lasted five days and belongs in the past tense.
