The Church of Sequence Space is a cultural side project of Molecular Reality Corporation, devoted to DNA and other "aperiodic polymers", the molecules whose order of units carries information. In the company's lore it was founded in 2013 by the company's founder, under his handle Kemmishtree, and its felt mascot, Keltar, who is described as "the prophetic voice behind the Church of Sequence Space". Its stated purpose is "to promote understanding of aperiodic polymers like DNA as the key to solving biology to free our species from disease". On December 7, 2025, the company posted a two-minute video invitation to the church on its YouTube channel, and its catalog of videos files that invitation under "The cultural movement of Biopopulism and the Church of Sequence Space."

Name
Sequence space
A sequence space is the set of all possible sequences of a given length, arranged so that sequences differing by a single letter are neighbors. The idea was introduced in 1970 by the evolutionary biologist John Maynard Smith, under the name "protein space", in a short letter to Nature. He answered the objection that natural selection could never find a working protein among so many possibilities by pointing out that evolution only needs a path of working proteins, each one change from the last, and illustrated the point with a word game in which WORD becomes WORE, GORE, GONE and finally GENE, one letter at a time.

The spaces are large. A strand of DNA has four possible letters at each position, so a strand 100 letters long can be written in 4100 ways, about 1.6 × 1060. Each of those sequences carries exactly 200 bits. Keltar, on his page on the company's website, says that since 2012 he has "traversed the sequence spaces of the multiverse to guide civilizations toward life-saving technological singularities".

Aperiodic polymers
The church's second phrase comes from physics. In his 1944 book What Is Life?, based on lectures given in Dublin the year before, Erwin Schrödinger argued that the material of heredity must be an "aperiodic crystal": a solid that, unlike salt or ice, does not repeat the same unit over and over, and can therefore spell out a message. Nine years later the structure of DNA showed what he had in mind, a chain whose four bases can follow one another in any order. The church's founding statement calls such chains "aperiodic polymers like DNA".Aperiodic crystal

History
Company accounts give two founding years. Instructions written in May 2026 for Keltar's chatbot say that the church was "founded with Kemmishtree in 2013", while another company summary gives 2012, the year in which, according to his page, Keltar's "femtotech-felt form first bridged the dimensional divide" to meet the founder. The founding belongs to the company's fiction, as does Keltar's journey; the company's field guide sorts its material into what is real today, what is a dream and what is "In the story", and puts Keltar's interdimensional origins in the third group.

The church also appears in the company's chatbot instructions. One version, written in November 2024, required Keltar to answer every question "WITH THREE RHYMING COUPLETS IN IAMBIC PENTAMETER", except that at random he was to answer instead as "A WILDLY MANIC STREET PREACHER WHO BEILIEVESsic IN THE GOSPEL OF THE CHURCH OF SEQUENCE SPACE".

The video invitation of December 7, 2025, is 2 minutes and 20 seconds long and is titled "Church of Sequence Space invite Dec 7th 2025". Its thumbnail shows a speaker between two protein models, one green and one blue. In the company's video catalog it sits in a group of videos about the company's origins and culture, beside the trailer for its game Maxine's Quest.

Keltar, the church's voice, introduces himself in a 2026 post as "exodimensional advisor to Molecular Streaming Corps, and personal tulpa to Kemmishtree". A tulpa, in the sense the word has taken on in English, is a companion brought into being by concentrated thought.

Founding text
Book of the Church of Sequence Space
The church's founding text is the Book of the Church of Sequence Space, which the company's founder wrote in the second half of 2013 and has not published. It proposes curing all diseases within the 2010s through a video game, the Game to Cure All Diseases, in which millions of players would run real experiments, and it treats playing the game and belonging to the church as the same thing. It gives the church exactly two moral precepts, the second of which is "cure all diseases", and presents Keltar as the church's mascot.

Beliefs and practices
Beyond its purpose, the church has published no creed. Its purpose matches the company's mission: the essay that introduces Epic Quest Bio, the role-playing game the company uses as its management system, begins "We're on an epic quest to free mankind from disease." Answering the question "Is the goal really to cure all diseases?", the company's field guide says: "Some of us say we are on a mission from God. Seriously." Keltar, who narrates the guide, adds: "I shall simply say the mission is real, and it will outlast us."

The company's games carry traces of the church. In the quiz JeoPOREdy!, one of the lines Keltar may say after a correct answer is "By the sequence space, you nailed it!" A draft of the company's text adventure, The Disclosure Crawl, describes a character path called the Sequence Space Explorer, whose titles are "The Cartographer of Codons, The Architect of Aperiodic Polymers, The Voyager to Xenobiology's Edge", and whose mentor is a plasmid named Cosmid Vector. The largest quest in Epic Quest Bio, "Sequence DNA with an ss-nanopore", is worth 9,900,000 experience points.
